Description
Heritage and Origin
Discover the José de Sousa Montado Tinto, a reliable ruby-red staple from Portugal’s Alentejo region, bottled in December 2022 as a 750 ml bottle at 13.0% alcohol crafted by winemaker Domingos Soares Franco. Born from José Maria da Fonseca’s 1986 acquisition of the legendary Casa Agrícola José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes estate – winemaking since 1878 and home to the iconic 1940 Tinto Velho – this approachable red has stayed faithful to its original blend since the 1991 harvest. From slate soils with a generous production of 260,000 bottles blending 40% Aragonês, 38% Trincadeira, 12% Syrah and 10% Alicante Bouschet, it entices with aromas of chocolate, tobacco leaf and oak, a fruity smooth palate with soft yet present tannins, and a medium finish – perfect everyday Portuguese red at Vin’s Winery online shop.
The Montado Expression
The José de Sousa Montado Tinto captures Alentejo’s welcoming tradition through maceration at 28°C with stems, followed by 4 months in French and American oak for subtle polish without overpowering the fruit. Store at 12°C and 60% humidity; best enjoyed young. Serve this premium Portuguese red at 16°C with red meats to savour its balanced, easy-drinking charm at Vin’s Winery.
